Longtime Berkeley Assessor Wilson Baggett Announces Run for County Auditor

 


MONCKS CORNER, SC – Wilson Baggett, who has served as Berkeley County’s Assessor for the past 15 years, announced today that he is running for County Auditor. Filing for the office opens on Saturday.

 

A lifelong resident of Berkeley County and a lifelong Republican, Baggett focused on his unique experience and proven conservative leadership in his announcement.

 

“To protect taxpayers, modernize and operate a more efficient and effective office, and enhance options for Berkeley County residents – I offer my lifetime of public service and unwavering commitment to conservative leadership in launching my campaign for Berkeley County Auditor,” said Baggett. “Just as I have done serving my neighbors in the Assessor’s Office, I will be rooted in the Berkeley County values of hard work and selfless service and strive daily to exceed expectations for all residents.”

 

This is Baggett’s first run for political office.

 

After ten years of service as a Senior Appraiser, Baggett was promoted in 1999 as the County’s Deputy Assessor, from which he led five software systems upgrades and community outreach regarding tax issues and deed transfers.

 

Since 2009, Baggett has served as the County Assessor and Director of Real Property Services. During this time, Baggett has managed a department of over twenty staff, represented Berkeley County before the Administrative Law Judge, successfully implemented three countywide reassessment programs, served in leadership of the county’s emergency operations center during hurricanes and other major disasters, and modernized the office and its operations.

 

A member of the International Association of Assessing Officials and the South Carolina Association of Assessing Officials, Baggett has also served as the County Assessors of South Carolina President, Vice-President, Secretary and Parliamentarian and on its board. Baggett holds a Certified General Appraisal License and has significant experience with the software programs utilized for the county’s tax billing, ROD deed program, and deed processing and online application.

 

Baggett has served as a church Deacon, Outreach Leader, Youth Minister, Youth and Adult Sunday School Teacher, and Budget Director. He has also volunteered as a little league football, basketball, and baseball coach, as well as an American Legion baseball coach and the St. Stephen Junior Varsity basketball coach.

 

Married for 38 years to Debbie Ridge Baggett and father of three, Baggett and his family live in Moncks Corner and attend Santee Circle Community Church.
