wilson baggett:

republican for berkeley county auditor

Wilson Baggett is a lifelong resident of Berkeley County who has dedicated his life to serving his neighbors. Now, with our support and vote in the June 11th Republican Primary, Wilson will continue his public service as the next Berkeley County Auditor.

Raised in St. Stephen with his seven siblings, Wilson’s roots in Berkeley County run deep; and the hard-working, conservative values he learned here remain strong today.

An “All Lowcountry” wide receiver who led St. Stephen Academy to a state football title in 1982, Wilson attended Erskine College before beginning service as a Senior Appraiser in Berkeley County. For ten years, Wilson managed office responsibilities and staff in this role. In 1999, he was promoted as the Deputy Assessor, from which he led five software systems upgrades and community outreach regarding tax issues and deed transfers.

Since 2009, Wilson has served as the Assessor and Director of Real Property Services. During this time, Wilson has managed a department of over twenty staff, represented Berkeley County before the Administrative Law Judge, successfully implemented three countywide reassessment programs, served in leadership of the county’s emergency operations center during hurricanes and other major disasters, and modernized the office and its operations.

A member of the International Association of Assessing Officials and the South Carolina Association of Assessing Officials, Wilson has also served as the County Assessors of South Carolina President, Vice-President, Secretary and Parliamentarian and on its board. Not only has Wilson guided five Berkeley County reassessment programs, but he has also assisted other counties across the state with their programs.

Wilson holds a Certified General Appraisal License and has significant experience and expertise with the software programs utilized for the county’s tax billing, the ROD deed program, and deed processing and online application.

The nephew of W. Tate Baggett, Jr., who helped establish the local and state Republican Party prowess we enjoy today, Wilson is a lifelong Republican and holds the values of faith and family at the forefront of his life.

He has served as a church Deacon, Outreach Leader, Youth Minister, Youth and Adult Sunday School Teacher, and Budget Director. And, he has volunteered his time coaching little league football, basketball, and baseball, as well as an American Legion baseball coach and the St. Stephen JV basketball coach.

Married for 38 years to Debbie Ridge Baggett, Wilson is the proud father of Kristen, Andrew, and Ridge. The family lives in Moncks Corner and attends Santee Circle Community Church.

Just as he has done leading the Berkeley County Real Property Services Department, Wilson is committed to modernizing the Auditor’s Office and exceeding expectations from residents.
